Before coming to Alliancesphere in 2009, Robert "Bob" Butler spent more than 30 years at IBM, where his key roles centered around channel and alliance enablement, launching various innovative IBM initiatives, including Big Blue's entry into UNIX- and RISC-based servers, the development and execution of IBM's e-business channel strategy, and the management of IBM's key Linux distributor alliance relationships worldwide, which contributed over $5 billion in annual revenue.
Bob had met Alliancesphere cofounder Lorin Coles a decade before joining Alliancesphere himself. "I met Lorin when he was an alliance executive at iXL," Bob recalls. "I was impressed with him then and I had kept up with him since he founded Alliancesphere. When I retired from IBM, it was a no-brainer to work for a person of his caliber."Butler spent more than 30 years at IBM, where his key roles centered around channel and alliance enablement [and] launching various innovative IBM initiatives
Bob's more recent experiences and successes since joining Alliancesphere have revolved around designing, implementing, and analyzing inputs from Partner Listening vehicles, including BI tool integration.
One executive with a large global Alliancesphere client says, "I always found Bob focused on my situation—although I know he had many initiatives under way—and driven to complete the sale or sales objective in mind."
Bob graduated from Auburn University with a degree in marketing, and lettered as an offensive lineman on the Auburn football team along with future NFL running backs Joe Cribbs, William Andrews, and James Brooks. Bob's primary accolades were earned in the classroom, however; he won the Bill Streit Award for maintaining the highest GPA on the football team. To this day, Bob tries to keep in playing shape by lifting weights and running regularly. He has a keen interest in genealogy, and can trace his ancestry back to two passengers on the Mayflower.
As Bob has learned over a business career spanning more than three decades at IBM—and as he applies it every day in his work with Alliancesphere clients—...teamwork, speed, nimbleness and strength... count for something away from the gridiron as well, especially in the ever-changing, fast-moving world of business development and alliance execution.
